Alex Black is a New York based Director and Photographer originally from Montreal. Fascinated by fashion as a tool for self expression, Alex captures a sense of intimacy from her subjects by finding their authenticity. She is also interested in landscapes as abstract shapes and forms, approaching the subject matter with the same art direction as her portraiture.
Her work has been influenced by being immersed in different cultures. Having grown up in Paris, she deals with beauty with an aesthetic of the past, driven by a strong sense of colour reminiscent of previous eras. Her subject matter has also been influenced by living among the vibrant youth culture in Montreal and New York.
Alex has been published in i-D, among others, and her videos have been on Vice's Thump and SHOWstudio. She has had shows at Fast Retailing, Theory's New York flagship store, Lomography NYC, and was awarded the 2017 Rangefinder Portrait and 2017 Emerging Photographer awards.
